Gingivoplasty

Gingivoplasty

  • A process similar to gingivectomy called gingivoplasty is performed to reshape the gingiva or correct deformities. In this procedure, elimination of periodontal pockets is done along with the reshaping. It is followed for creating physiological gingival contours for the purpose of recontouring the gingiva in the absence of the pockets.
  • Gingival and periodontal diseases produce deformities in the gingiva that result in collection of plaque and food debris, which extend and combine the disease process.
  • Gingivoplasty is done using a periodontal knife, a scalpel, rotary coarse diamond stones, electrodes or laser. This procedure can be done after a gingivectomy. It is simply done to make the gums look better and more natural.
