How do single-tooth implants work?
Three components constitute a single-tooth implant:
- The implant which is made of titanium is shaped like a screw and placed into the jawbone. During the implant local anesthesia is given to the patient and then his bones are cut open to look for jaw bone. Drilling is done and then the metal or porcelain implant is placed.
- The abutment which is also made of titanium, gold, or porcelain, is attached to the implant. This part connects the implant to the crown. It acts as a bridge between the crown and the implant. It helps the gum tissues to heal properly taking a time of around 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, the cap is removed and abutment is screwed onto the implant.
- The crown which is made of porcelain fused to metal (PFM), all-metal, or all-porcelain will be crafted nicely to match our other teeth and will be attached to the abutment permanently.
