Pulpcapping / Pulpotomy

Pulpcapping / Pulpotomy
  • Westcoast has a team of dentists who also involve in Pulpotomy which is the best dental clinic in surat.
  • Pulpotomy or pulpcapping is a small dental surgery performed on primary tooth of children with extensive caries and without evidence of root pathology.
  • VPT techniques are based on improved understanding of the capacity of healing and regenerating the nerve tissues and also the availability of advanced endodontic materials.
  • When the caries is removed, it results into bleeding from the cavity.
  • During the caries removal, this results in a carious or mechanical pulp exposure (bleeding) from the cavity. During the process of pulpotomy, the diseased pulp tissue is carefully removed from the coronal pulp chamber of the tooth leaving the healthy pulp tissue which is dressed with a long-term clinically-successful medicament that is responsible for the survival of the pulp tissue and also promoting its repair.
  • Various types of medicaments are placed above the vital pulp such as calcium hydroxide or MTA , Buckley’s Solution of formocresol, or ferric sulfate.
  • MTA is a recently used material for pulpotomies with a high rate of success, better than formocresol or ferric sulfate and also a recommended Pulpotomy agent in the future.
  • After the coronal pulp chamber is filled, the tooth is restored with a filling material that seals the tooth from micro-leakage, such as a stainless steel crown which is the most effective long-term restoration.
  • However, if there is sufficient remaining supporting tooth structure, other filling materials such as amalgam or composite resin can provide a functional alternative when the primary tooth has a life span of two years or less.
  • In young people, the medium and long-term treatment outcomes of pulpotomy in symptomatic permanent teeth with caries indicate that pulpotomy can be a potential alternative to root canal therapy (RCT).
