Polyp Excision / Pyogenic Granuloma

Polyp Excision / Pyogenic Granuloma
  • Pyogenic granuloma or granuloma pyogenicum is a popular oral lesion. Though the name is pyogenic granuloma, it is not suitable as it is not associated with pus and does not represent a granuloma. It is a tumor-like, excessively grown tissue responding to localized irritation or trauma.
  • It is a reactive inflammatory process which is filled with growing vascular channels, immature fibroblastic connective tissue, and scattered inflammatory cells. The surface is mostly ulcerated, and the lesion shows a lobular structure. It is mostly found to affect people of any age but is more common in females than in males. It is even found affecting pregnant women where lesions occur in the 1st trimester which increases till 7th month. These lesions are seen on the gums.
