  • Operculum is the flap of gum that partially covers a tooth. The surgical procedure of removing the operculum is called Operculectomy. This procedure is done as a treatment for periconitis. In Periconitis, the operculum faces pain and inflammation. This condition is commonly seen in young adults whose wisdom tooth has started to break out.
  • Operculectomy is a safe and simple procedure which has a good chance of succeeding. After the completion of the procedure, Patients get immediate relief from pain and discomfort. The plaque or tartar build up is also prevented further. Patients also find it easy to keep this area of the mouth clean.
  • After the surgery, the patient may take rest for some days and also advised to take soft food diet while gum tissues heal. A routine follow-up check with the dentist is compulsory so that no complications occur further and  to make sure that the tissues are healing well.
