Flap Surgery
-
We may require surgery for severe gum diseases (periodontiti) and if they cannot be cured with antibiotics or root planing and scaling. A flap surgery repairs bone damage caused by gum disease and also clean the roots of a tooth. Generally the surgery is performed by a periodontist or an oral surgeon.
-
A dentist gives local anesthesia before the surgery to numb the area where the surgery is to be performed. The procedure commonly takes few days for recovery from a flap surgery.
-
A flap surgery is performed when gum diseases damage the bones supporting the teeth.
-
If we maintain good dental care after the surgery, the flap surgery allows us to clean our teeth and gums better. Our gums become pink and healthy again.
-
On the downside, sometimes the roots of the teeth become more sensitive and contour or shape of the teeth may change.
